Prior to 1965 educators and doctors alike- namely Eugene A. Stead- recognized a shortage of professions that would act as both an assistant and primary healthcare provider. Thus, “the PA profession was created to improve and expand healthcare,” using a curriculum Stead created based on the one used for fast-tracking doctors during WWII, (The History of the PA Profession). This profession requires a bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in PA sciences, as well as a minimum of three years’ medical work experience. A PA works under the authority of a physician or a doctor, meaning they are less likely to have to deal with lawsuits. The profession itself is very flexible with many fields and many opportunities for both part-time and full-time employment, (Cawley, Roderick, and Pedersen 15).…

The agreeable aspects of being medical technologist are that it champions the unique opportunities to accumulate medical experience academically and practically. For the speaking of intellectual learning opportunity, while being able to glean over a number of innovative laboratory techniques and contemporary medical procedures, I also gain knowledge in medical terms, anatomy, physiology, and patient relationships. In addition, for the practical experience, being a medical technologist has to benefit to interact with PAs daily basis and to find PA shadowing opportunities. However, the most precious benefit of my occupation is that it offers the varied PA shadowing opportunities. Since the Gulf Breeze Hospital has provided PA students for completing…

The physician assistant’s interdependence on a licensed practicing physician allows both of the professionals to practice more independently from each other yet recognize that each has a responsibility to the other. Today, physician assistants function in roles unimagined in the 1960s and 1970s. However, one thing remains the same, the PA and the physician are in a partnership and part of a team, whereby the physician assistant’s role and responsibilities remain contingent upon the expectations of the practicing physician and the scope of his practice.1(8) Also, the history of the profession and the development of the program have shaped the role of the physician assistant in that it recognized that much of what physicians do on a daily basis is routine. Therefore, it conceded that with a well-educated and well-trained non-physician provider there are very little limitations to what a physician assistant can practice.…
Why Do you Want to become a Physician Assistant: As we grow up, our experiences, life lessons, and failures are like puzzle pieces which shape us into who we become. These experiences help us find our passion, which is ingrained in our heart. Mrs. X, a 70- year-old sickle-cell anemic patient who weighs 75 pounds, comes into the Faith Family and Health Clinic for her regular check-up. I hold her hands and help her walk into the examination room. I notice that she is too weak to hop into the examination table by herself, and so I pick her up and set her down in a comfortable position.…
The last patient in the triage line is having a heart attack. I take a deep breath, rally my team, and begin the match. I come alive in the emergency department (ED), when I am competing against disease and injury, pushing myself to the limit for the sake of others. Like a sport, practicing medicine requires dedication, teamwork and skill. My drive to become a physician assistant (PA) comes from much more than my desire to compete against the obstacles facing modern healthcare.…
As the average age of health care workers and the general population rises, the need for the trained health care providers also rises. I believe that I have chosen the perfect field to join because wherever I go there will always be a job. Medical Assisting is a career path with so much potential. One of the biggest reasons I choose the medical field is it’s a field filled with compassion and a career I’m sure to be proud of at the end of my journey. Although by law it’s not a requirement for medical assistants to be certified, a large percentage of them opt to get certified.…

My ability to persevere despite these challenges and to master a rigorous academic program at Smith College, reflect my strong desire to always grow and improve, my ability to face challenges and conquer them, and my drive to succeed—all qualities that will serve me in well in Yale’s PA program. While at Terem, the lead researcher quickly recognized not only my technical abilities and my strong work ethic, but also my desire to grow and learn, and therefore gave me more responsibility than she gave the other interns. But my greatest strength is my passion for helping and healing others. I want to be a PA and help people. Working in health care has been a dream of mine since I was little, and I have found the perfect job in becoming a PA.…
My health care experiences when shadowing doctors have all had a common theme: serve with empathy. The physicians I have shadowed treated their patients for a variety of issues, and all of them could have addressed the needs of their patients in a myriad of ways. However, I found that the patient’s happiness was most profound when the doctors genuinely empathized with their concerns and served their needs. Recognizing the potential to serve others as a physician, I was inspired to pursue studies in medicine in order to serve others in this way by emulating this genuine empathy, especially for people who are underprivileged. As the underprivileged populations and marginalized communities are the people often over-looked in the healthcare system…
A career as a physician’s assistant is one of just a few careers that allow you to treat injuries or diagnose illnesses and even assist in surgeries alongside a certified doctor, all without an going through an insane amount of medical school, internships, tests and programs as a normal doctor would. Since physician’s assistants (or PA’s) work under the watchful eye of licensed intelligent physicians, they are required to have the same training but not nearly in as much length or detail. Physician assistant work may be demanding both physically and emotionally, therefore, stability is necessary. Varying in facilities, physician’s assistants are required to work full time, crazy hours or sometimes-on call. This job requires rigorous training as most all tasks on the job require you to follow a strict protocol as not to put patients…
3 AM I’m a young, unexperienced high school student trying to figure out where I fit in this world… country… town... life. After tossing many ideas around in my head, in my heart, and with my parents, I finally feel good about a direction I plan to pursue. Most careers in the health field look good to me because of the appearance of these positions. In the health field, you have a stable job, decent pay, varying amounts of education, many different departments to choose from, and opportunities to work your way up and grow. I’ve jumped from Surgical Technician, to more of a nursing direction.…
