Violence involving guns is a serious matter with no simple solution. Mass shootings are at an all time high; occurring too often to be considered abnormal anymore. In Fort Worth, Texas a man named Larry Gene opened fire inside a church killing seven people and injuring seven more. Middle school students Mitchell Johnson and Andrew Golden pulled their school fire alarm and began shooting in the field killing five and injuring ten in Jonesboro, Arkansas. It’s shocking crimes like this that causes a need for more control. In response to these cases, some people wish to limit guns and have stricter control laws believing this would make it more difficult for crimes to take place. Gun proponents believe taking away our guns is the wrong approach; we need to be able to protect ourselves from the ones participating in gun violence and would not follow the laws regardless of the limitations. Gun control is a controversial topic which makes it difficult to satisfy everyone in the end. However, it is important that we find a solution to lower gun violence and that solution being reasonable enough for both sides to accept. Many people, including some gun control believers, think background checks should be placed before allowing someone to purchase a gun in order to prevent them from getting into the wrong hands.
