The problem with certain guns is clear, they pose a threat to security of public establishments. I propose that all automatic and semiautomatic weapons become banned, they are illegal to own and purchase. With this in place it will harder for people to get a hold of a automatic rifle if they have intentions of committing a crime. The reason for this is that the problem with most public shootings is not the weapon but the mentally unstable person behind the gun. Because of this the best way to fix the problem is to remove the guns from the equation. All semiautomatic and automatic guns are illegal to own and those who already own them must return them to the Federal Government. This policy does not infringe on an individual's right to bear arms. …show more content…
How is the United States going to recall such a massive amount of weapons. Well the answer is that the United States will use funding to purchase the weapons. Local police station will receive the weapons and take the address of the weapon owner. Once the guns are collected each local Police Station will transfer the weapons the state police station for pick-up. Then the Federal Government will send secured trucks to retrieve the weapons from each state until all have been collected. The Federal Government will also compensate all previous owners of the weapons will a check to cover the cost of the gun. Each gun will then be recycled either for replaceable parts or for use in the United States Military. The guns would have to pass an inspection to insure that they are working properly. If anyone does not concede their weapons to the Federal Government then they will be charged with felony against the security of the United States. This charge will prevent them from purchasing any other weapons during their lifetime. Because all guns are made to be traced whoever provides a weapon to one of these mentally unstable people for the use of a mass shooting will also be charged and sentenced to life in prison or even death. This punishment is harsh and some will argue that it infringes on their second amendment rights, but they must remember that the second amendment says “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed”. (Article 2, Bill of Rights, United States Constitution) This says you are aloud to have a gun to protect your home and your land to ensure the security of a free State.
