Chewing gum in school should be allowed in schools nationwide. There are many benefits to this subject, including increased grades, better oral health, better focus, and helping to stop obesity. Some people find gum chewing rude, messy or annoying. Teachers included due to Students putting gum on classroom furniture. There happen to be more benefits than drawbacks.
One main reasons chewing gum is beneficial is it promotes focus. Not only in students, but in athletes and people of the working class. “If you're looking to curb your appetite and improve your memory, you're probably exercising, eating healthier foods and trying to get some sleep.” ( Chris Gajilan). Chewing gum has some nutritional value with no calories and most types of gum now come sugar free. So it does not put a damper on your weight. The motion of chewing once again tricks your brain. Your brain thinks you’re eating. So, that combined with the taste of the gum tricks your brain into thinking you’re eating.
“Research from the University of Rhode Island showed that people who chewed gum consumed 68 fewer calories at lunch and did not compensate by eating more later in the day.” In addition to that, “Gum chewers actually burned about 5% more calories than non-gum chewers.”(WebMd) So it has salubrious value to helping people lose weight.
Most flavors and brands of gum now have the option of being sugar free. In addition to being god for fighting obesity, chewing gum is also good for your oral health. “According to MouthHealthy.com, the ADA’s consumer website, clinical studies have shown that chewing sugarless gum for 20 minutes following meals can help prevent tooth decay.” Says the Colgate company's website.
