An Institute for small children in Kansas City, Missouri called Sister Morad of the French of Notre Dame De Sion was having school on September 28, 1953. As the children were having school, there was a knock at the door and as one of the teachers opened the door to a woman who said she was the Aunt of Bobby Greenlease. Robert Cosgrove Greenlease Jr., refer to as Bobby, was the six-year-old son of Robert C Greenlease Sr. Robert Sr. was a weathly automobile dealer who resided in Mission Hill, Kansas City, Missouri. Bobby’s Aunt informed the teacher that Bobby’s mother had suffered a heart attack and taken to St. Mary’s Hospital. His aunt appeared visibly upset and she continued to apologize to the teacher for her condition. When the teacher got Bobby, she did not tell him of his mother’s heart attack. Around 11:30 that day, Sister Marthana called the Greenlease home to ask of Bobby’s mother. As the teacher talked to Bobby’s mother, she realized the information was false. Mrs. Greenlease, Bobby’s mother quickly called her husband and told him to rush home. When Mr. Greenlease arrived home, they notified the police chief in Kansa City. As the police heard the news, they quickly called the FBI. The FBI arrived in Kansa City and started questioning everyone. They started with the cab driver, Willard Person Creech, first because he was the last one who had seen this little boy alive. He continued to tell the specialists that a bit before 11 o’clock on the 28th day of September, the woman cab driver to drive her to the school. He gave a description and a sketch of her was made. As the cab pulled up to the school, she told Mr. Creech not to leave because she needed him to drive her to a drug store. He waited for about 6 minutes and she came back to the car with a child who fit the sketch of Bobby. The cab driver last saw Bobby and the woman when they stopped behind a blue 1952 or 1953 Ford Sedan, having a Kansas license plate. A short few hours passed when Mr. and Mrs. Greenlease received their first ransom letter about the returning of Bobby. The ransom letter asked for $600,000 in $20 and $10 dollar bills placed in a duffle bag. The note read that if there was no funny business Bobby would be safety returned in 24 hours. Around 9:30 p.m on the 29th of September the second note came. This letter contained a Jerusalem medal. As the parents examined the medal, they told the authorities that it was Bobby’s. Once again, she demanded the $600,000 and told his parents he was homesick. The Greenlease family had received around ½ dozen ransom notes and 15 or more phone calls. Final communication was a telephone call that Bobby’s parents received at 1 a.m. on the 5th of October, stating they had received the money and Bobby was alive and would be returned. What Bobby’s parents did not know was that Bobby was kill just a few short hours after his abduction.
