As a member of “Future Teachers of America” all four years at Dyer County High School, I always knew the answer to the question my classmates often asked, “What are you going to do after high school?” “Teach” was my answer. I knew from the first day Ms. Eva Kindle recruited me into her program, FTA, as a freshman that I wanted to teach. However, I later realized, “What are you going to teach?” was the bigger question. Dyersburg State Community College is where I started my college education. I graduated with an associates degree of science in teaching in 2009. I then started my first semester at The University of Memphis with 21 hours. I was quickly overwhelmed but this is where I learned to appreciate the convenience of online classes. A majority of my classes were online. I really enjoyed the fact that I was able to work two jobs to make sure I was making ends meet and complete on my school work at night on my own time. In between semesters at The University of Memphis, I received information that the teacher education program I had started would be changing. The change revolved a new program called, Teaching all Learners. This would consist of me being able to get certified to teach regular education, kindergarten through sixth grade as well as special education, kindergarten through twelfth grade with the exception of being able to meet all the requirements. Like many other of my classmates, I was leery about the special education part of my degree. I…
