Greetings, Class of 2023. Today, we get to celebrate the culmination of our thirteen years of hard work in school with graduation, and I have been asked to deliver this year’s commencement speech. Nearing the end of their college journey, many graduates feel lost about the next step to take in their lives. In Adam Sandler’s commencement speech to the NYU Tisch graduates, he leans into humor as a way to ease the fear and nervous anticipation that might have settled within the students, utilizes metaphors to emphasize the differences between people on Tisch and others, as well as incorporates personal anecdotes as a method to plant a seed of hope and encouragement for the future. SECTION HEADER Graduation can be a happy time as well as stressful for certain people. As students sit in wait for their degrees, swirling thoughts of self-doubt and worry can bury themselves within their minds. Adam Sandler’s use of humor does well to distract from negative thoughts and instead subdues any fear that…

As I walked into the school of DollyHigh, everyone congratulated me on becoming Valedictorian on the campus. I moved in Dolly about four years ago after my mom and dad got a divorce. Although the divorce done me and my mom bad we both knew we needed to start our own new lives. I remember walking into Dolly high for my freshman year and remembering what it feels like to be known as “The New Kid” or “Fresh Meat”. Look at me now, the Cheer captain of the squad, Valedictorian, and joining in on many clubs to make my collage record look professional.…

Although we grow apart and go our separate ways, we will never forget the moments of celebration and traditions, the reflection of who we once were, and who we are inspired to become. The celebration of graduating is such a great accomplishment, we have completed thirteen years of nightly homework, reading, practices, and jobs. Although it was all worth it and what we carry with us when we are out of East High is a treasure that no one could ever forget. The celebration of studying every night trying to earn that college credit, but wondering if it is genuinely even worth it, knowing exactly what I want to do in my future, and leaving with never failing a class has been all such a valuable accomplishment.…

As I was typing this speech, I didn’t really know where to start. Five minutes is a bit ridiculous, and I tend to be a man of few words, so hopefully this suffices. First of all, I want to thank you all for nominating me to be president of Pi Kappa Alpha Gamma Epsilon. I understand that it is a huge responsibility and I don’t take it lightly at all.
