His speech is blunt about what people will face in their life after education. That adult life is boring, repetitive, trivial, tiring. Yet despite being adult life being unsatisfactory, Wallace always says it will only be those things because of your perspective.…

There have been many teachers that have taught me alot, but one very noteworthy friend takes the top spot. I would like to honor Jeff Strobl as the light in the darkness from my deranged junior year of high school. He was not only a teacher, but a mentor that I could talk to about anything. He looks up to me similarly to that of a family member: like a son he never had. Even from the first day we met, he knew I had potential to do extraordinary things in life.…

Good Evening, Thank you so much for having me today, it really is an honor to be a part of this magnificent organization that brings forth different communities and unites them as one, with one goal; obtaining a better future. I have been a member of the Boys & Girls Club for ten years now, however, I did not get to where I am today out of coincidence and this has a story that begins with my mom. My mom was raised in Mexico where she pursued to go to a University and have a successful future, however she was at an economic disadvantage, which was an obstacle in reaching her goals. However, she met my “dad” who promised her to help her reach her goals. What she did not know was that she had been lied too and instead of a bright future,…

Profound, huh? I wrote that silly little poem roughly five or six years ago give or take a few. It’s full of some great advice, if I say so myself, but it seems to oversimplify things quite drastically because being happy isn’t all that simple. Life can be full of a lot of horrible things such as endless mental disorders that could be plaguing you, death, addiction, abuse, poverty, sexism, racism, unemployment, or even losing that round you worked really hard on. The list could go on for ages and I could probably fill up my ten minutes just listing off how horrible life can be, but that’s not what the point behind this speech is.…

Graduation is intended to celebrate one’s efforts and highlights of accomplishments done while an individual ventured and completed their educational journey, any educational level (Elementary through University level). Recently my younger sister celebrated her graduation from high school and I celebrated my graduation from university. As everyone congratulated us for our accomplishments and hard work, I celebrated with them but also felt a sort of guilt, guilt that started from an early age in the realization of my self-endowed privilege over my mothers. In my household the importance of education was always important and seen as a priority but with this being said the background in regards to educational level from my mother it lacked far…
