Midwestern State University Scholarship Essay

Growing up struggling does not mean you are destined for a future of failure. In fact it can strengthen you in ways you are not aware of to prepare you for the challenges ahead. Other students had 50 and 60 credits transferred from TAMCC. I felt like I would never graduate in addition to feeling out of place because I was older than most of the students. In probably the most influential one-to-one conversation I’ve had with someone, Dr. Randy Glean (Director of International Students at Midwestern State University) said to me “Kevaughan, you are perfect for this program. You will do great. Just give it a year and …show more content…

As stated above, I have a wide range of settings I am interested in working in the future. Before I share why I’d absolutely do anything to attend Pratt’s precollege summer program, and why I think it will help me in unimaginable aspects, let me give the reader some insight about me and my life. I am a Jewish 16 year old boy who grew up and is still growing up surrounded and encompassed by Jewish life. I would never knock Judaism in any regard, I believe religion, for everybody, helps gain clarification or at least purpose for even those whom are completely uninvolved. I have changed since I was a kid. As a kid, born and raised in Canada, I attended an all boys, extremely strict private school that didn’t really care if you were different or had any talent whatsoever.…

In the 2018 spring semester I will be studying abroad with SEA Semester and completing a semester-long research project about carbon cycling in the sub-Antarctic Ocean. Although my major, earth and oceanographic science, has exposed me to plate tectonics, sedimentary systems, and biogeochemical cycling, I have focused my major mostly on ocean systems. Within oceanography I am most interested in marine nutrient cycling, ocean acidification, and water quality monitoring of coastal ecosystems. This past summer I conducted research through the Bowdoin EOS Dept. on a spectrophotometric method development to improve the accuracy and precision of pH measurements.…

My decision to apply for the NCCC scholarships stems from the perfect platform it provides to pursuing the interest I developed in Nursing whilst in Senior High School. During my Senior High School days in Ghana, my class visited the sick in some hospitals and upon seeing their agony and the way some nurses were maltreating some of the patience, I said to myself, I will become a nurse to offer comfort and care to the sick. I noticed during my interactions with some of the sick especially the aged how comforting and healing could come through empathy, helpful hand and friendly interactions. I built a strong relationships with some of the patients, collected their phone numbers and used to call them to check on them. There are two of these people I still call to check on them even now that I am in the United States.…
