My parents wanted me to apply once I got a certain letter. At school I was handed a letter and when I received the letter I was like a deer in headlights. The letter said “ your child has been identified as gifted and we strongly suggest application to Brickell Academy”. My parents now knew that I was destined for a gifted education. I told my parents i did not want to apply , they knew that it would be in my best interest to apply. My parents said” apply and if you get in then you could go but if you did not you would not have any regrets !” I did apply and then we just waited for a response. Soon the year was coming to an end and letters about application would be coming home any day, everyone was anxious. One night i had just gotten home and my parents greeted me with an email. The email read “ Your child is very gifted yet we did not have enough places so she will be placed on the waiting list for our school Brickell Academy.” I was upset yet relieved that I did not get in so I could be with my friends, I was upset because I thought I was not smart enough to get in. The year was slowly fading out and it was almost time

Applying to colleges, jobs, or certain schools is a difficult process to do. Your application must be accurate and efficient. Also, you have to compete with other people that desperately want the same position as you do. However, before you can assume that you want the ‘spot’, you have to know what the requirements are and why do you feel like you're the best choice. For example, if you are an advanced eighth grader in the tri-cities region of Virginia, you are capable to apply for the governor school, which are Maggie L. Walker and Appomattox Regional.…

This personal narrative is going to be about the first day of Middle School and my experiences as a 6th grader. It is going to go after my emotions and other descriptive details of the first day. I still remember how the seat belt felt tightening across my chest as the car got closer to the Middle School. During that time I knew nothing about being in a big school because the biggest school i've been in was yankee ridge. (Which is really small).…

Unlike many of my peers, my life story is slightly different. Many of my peers share the story of living in a single parent home, being homeless, violence, and poverty. However, in my case, living in a two parent household is strange to hear about to my peers. For me, living in a two parent household means more work because of my desire to receive a full scholarship. Upon my research, I noticed that many of my older peers would receive better college financial opportunities because of their life experiences.…

I moved from Texas to North Dakota, where seventh grade was the first year of middle school. I took on those same fears and hopes that I had faced before, but in an unfamiliar place where I had no one except for family to give me support. I tried a lot of new things that year, mainly wrestling.…

It all started in the eighth grade, I was nearing the end of middle school and I had a daunting decision waiting for my response. The question of where I would attend high school loomed. The decision was solely mine, I was accepted to all the schools in which I applied and my parents left the choice up to me. I narrowed my list down to two, Archbishop Williams or BC High. Archbishop Williams is a small, co-ed school fairly close to home, while BC High is a much larger, all-male school located near the city and further from home.…

Failures are what make us human, and sometimes you have to take one step back to take 2 steps forward. Monmouth County in New Jersey contains some of the top vocational high schools in the country. The highly competitive nature of these programs makes them highly sought after by many residents including myself. There are five vocational schools located within Monmouth County, but students can only apply to one, and only one student from each town is accepted. It was my dream to attend one of these prestigious schools, but events do not always unfold as planned.…

Before even entering high school, I made a decision that would ruin the next few years. Looking back, I had no idea it would have impacted me as much as it did, but even now I still wouldn’t have changed that decision. Everything that came after that decision, no matter how difficult, shaped me into who I am today, and I was able to meet some pretty amazing people and do a few things only a handful of people can say they’ve done. In elementary school, I was in the S.C.O.P.E. (Spotsylvania County Program of Enrichment) program, my county’s way of separating out students who they considered gifted and a distraction in the classroom.…

I come from a family that has little to nothing. We live by what people would say “paycheck to paycheck.” So we’ve done things that may seem silly or weird to others, but for me, I like to think that it’s something funny to tell in the future. Which is true because now I can make jokes and use some of my mistakes or things like that to make people laugh or to grow from it. My family can be considered somewhat heavy on education; even if we didn’t have much, my parents still told us education is important.…

I was just starting high school and my family had already started pressuring me about college and what I wanted to do in life. Within that chaos there was one thing that really had me intrigued, and it was my uncle telling me about the University of Illinois. He was the first person in my family to attend a University and I would soon be the second. Throughout my years in high school he’d always try to persuade me to go to this school by telling me stories of his time there along with the amazing opportunities that came with it. All I can say is that his nagging worked, he, at one point, had me convinced.…
