Essay about Graduation Speech : Education, Math, And Science

1040 Words Jan 8th, 2015 null Page
Some statistics about nation schools, show that some high schools are not preparing students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel after graduation. Only one in four high school students graduate college-ready in the four core subjects of English, reading, math and science. Whether graduates join the military, the job workforce or go straight into college and then on to bigger and better things, we all need the four core subjects, and since I was lead to believe to understand that all I really needed to know about the four core subjects in grade school, I completely disregarded them as vital information and treated it as a way to boost my grade as I became older. I was able to pick up on the general idea of these subjects because I was an advanced learner. As I grew older, I developed a passion for books and for science. This made it hard for me to study more about English and math as I got older especially when I got into high school. I was one of many who didn 't like math, and felt it was irrelevant to learn more about the language I speak, any further than being able to to read, write and understand the language. It took some time to build my skills in math and English, and eventually I ended up surpassing most in my grade area in those two subjects. I have credited much of my success in math and English to the connections I made with the real world, my commitment and dedication, and by discovering why some teachers teach in the field of math and science.
