Global Warming Threats and Solutions According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), global warming is defined as “the increase in Earth’s average surface temperature due to rising levels of greenhouse gases” (Dunbar, “What 's in a Name? Global Warming vs. Climate Change"). Global warming is one of the biggest threats that the world is coping with now. Global warming has major impacts on the environment and it is very destructive to human existence on the planet. As a result of global warming, many disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, volcano eruption are likely to occur more in the world. However, there are three ways to decrease the effect of global warming, such as “3R” (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), using clean energy and planting more trees. One of the biggest factors causing global warming is human activity like overconsumption, waste resources, and using disposable products. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, hazardous wastes are generated around 400 million tons and they are thrown out to the environment each year, but about 87 million of them are recycled, which is equivalent to a 34.3 percent recycling rate. In fact, there is a plastic island named “The Great Pacific Garbage Patch” that is twice the size of Texas created from human’s waste.
