Deforestation is the permanent destruction of forests in order to make the land available for other uses. Can you imagine thirty-six football fields being wiped out per minute? This is happening to our forests, between twelve to fifteen million hectares of forest are lost each year. The DRC Congo and Australia have both undergone Deforestation which has led to loss in biodiversity, releases carbon gases into the atmosphere and many more devastating effects. Around half the world’s tropical rainforests have been cleared and both the DRC Congo and Australia are a part of that along with lots of others.

Deforestation impacts the environment greatly one effect it does have which impacts the air is an increase in carbon emission from the burning of the forest. Two million acres of the Congo Basin is removed each year which is equivalent to the emissions of one hundred and fifty seven new coal fired power plants. A phenomenon haze may be obvious because of excessive carbon emission that will pollute the air. The haze can cause people to suffer from certain health problems which include eye, nose, throat irritations and lung infections. Logging roads have opened up a wide range of areas to commercial hunting which leads to poaching. There has been an over sixty percent drop in the elephant population in the Congo rainforest because of those logging roads. A loss of biodiversity is a common problem caused by deforestation. The roads that have lead deeper into the forests made by logging companies results in overhunting of varies species such has the western lowland gorilla, leopard and elephant. This occurs because the roads are giving bush meat hunters more access to parts of the forest that were previously isolated , this sadly leads to extinction. There is Schemes around Australia, planting trees to balance our carbon use and we have property owners in far north Queensland more concerned about creating development sites and knocking down rainforests. Rainforest rescue believes that the local government has insufficient planning schemes to help preserve the Daintree rainforest. It is estimated that a further one hundred rainforest properties remain unprotected and threatened by development. In truth majority of Australia believe the diantree rainforest is protected . With donations from community rainforest rescue has been buying back and conserving properties. They are calling on existing owners of properties in the Daintree not to develop but to seal them to Rainforest rescue and so they become Nature refuges. Rainforest rescue has done a good job in giving us a head start to try try preserve our forests and keep the animals habits and our environment
