Gender Inequality in India
“Gender inequality refers to unequal treatment or perceptions of individuals based on their gender. It arises from differences in socially constructed gender roles as well as biologically through chromosomes, brain structure, and hormonal differences.” This type of inequality is seen almost everyday in many everyday lives but mostly in the workplace. Gender roles have drastically changed since the 1900s but they are still not where women want them to be. There is still discrimination over a woman being able to handle a job with a lot of pressure and needed authority over their workers. Another issue is when men do not respect women enough to listen and follow their orders the same way they would if a man of higher authority told them. The inequalities of women is prominent everywhere throughout India, and in most situations these women accept the hardships they are given and do not fight against them because of fear and obligation to their families. Due to the fact that poverty is extreme in India, women are forced to work low paying, self-diminishing jobs that get paid less than men, in order to earn money for their families; while trying to do all of the housework. Men are the number one priority in the household, even at dinner, men get to eat before the women which leads to starvation and malnutrition. This leads to an unhealthy, unsafe lifestyle.
