One of the main challenge is behavioral challenges. The couple said that most of the behavior challenges that they came across, was related to abuses that had occur in the child (ren) life. Some behaviors challenges can also turn into fear, crying, being by themselves, not telling the truth, and taking things/property that’s does not belong to them. Another challenge the Goodlin couple talked about, is the added stressors of communicating efficiently with case workers, birth families, and the court system. The couple said at the end with fostering, there can be great outcome for the foster family and for the foster child, when there are clear understanding, knowledge and the ability to work as a team with everyone who has the child (ren) safety and needs best at…
Children have little to no control of their environment, especially in the decision making on behalf of them. Everyone may be agree with me based on this case study. Placed those three children (Lucy 6, Robert 3 and the 20 months old Joey) in foster care was not their decision per se neither their parent agreement. That will be my focus on this paper and the systems perspective theory will help me to analyze this case study perfectly.…
These changes may leave victims more vulnerable to depression, addiction and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).” (Szalavitz 1). Since mental illnesses such as depression, addiction, and PTSD do not have cures, the child will have to lives with those forever. So, therefore, putting a child in foster care to eliminate mental disorders and illnesses does not work, and it can create more issues for the…
Overcrowded homes and understaffed Child Protective Services (CPS) offices has threatened the foster care system in the Dallas-Forth Worth metroplex for many years; recently, however, it has proven to be a problem that we can no longer turn a blind eye to. The Dallas News reports that in Dallas ISD alone, there are approximately 3,600 students without homes. They furthers that many children without homes “simply stop going to school and hide on the streets”. With a high demand and a low supply, foster homes in Dallas are severely overcrowded. This has elicited more and more children sleeping in the Child Protective Services offices.…
Most children are put into foster care homes that aren’t always the best. In 2014, according to the AFCARS Report, about 400,000 children were placed in foster care due to unfit parents or being unwanted. Out of those children 100,000 were waiting to be adopted but only 50,000 are successfully given homes. The rest of the children that were not adopted travel in and out of various foster homes. A CASA study done in 2013 showed that children in foster care had a 31.6% chance of getting into drugs or crimes.…
1993- Family Preservation and Support Act: Congress begins talking about putting serious money into family preservation. It passes the Family Preservation and Support Act. President Clinton signs it. The program was part of the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act which established a new subpart 2 to Title IV-B of the Social Security Act. 1980- Adoption Assistance and Child Welfare Act: An act to establish a program of adoption assistance, to strengthen the program of foster care assistance for needy and dependent children, to improve the child welfare, social services, and aid to families with dependent children programs, and for other purposes.…

In 1935 as part of the Social Security Act, Aid to dependent children was established to prevent the disruption of families on the grounds of poverty alone (Committee on Economic Security, 1935). By the 1950s, foster care had become one of the largest components of the child welfare system. It was during this time that the first large-scale study of foster care was conducted. Maas and Engler’s Children in Need of Parents (1959), called attention to what became known as “foster care drift” the problem of children remaining in foster care indefinitely. From the 1960s-80s the number of children in foster care continued to increase topping out at around 500,000 in 1977 (Tatara,…
The neglect system or foster care? There is a need for strict enforcement, and improvement for the foster care system. It is proven fact that those who grew up in the foster care system have less of a chance living a successful life, due to neglect in the system. Children are constantly being moved from house to house; living with people who pretend to care for the kids, but really care more for the money and benefits given to them by the government.…
There are approximately 397,000 children in foster care in the United States of America currently and I used to be one of them. However, foster had not even been near the forefront of my mind that summer. The summer before I started my first year of high school, I had plenty of anxiety about the tall tale I invented in my own mind that stood before me. Stories about how hard high school were numerous and often regaled on the crowded bus ride home by high schoolers who seemed to have the knowledge of every wise teacher in history combined. which that scared me to death; I had always held my position as a good student who followed the rules of my middle school.…
Statistics show that there is an ominous future for those children that age out of the foster system. For instance once a child ages out of the foster system they basically get put out on the streets or to live in housing system of…
It is not too late to help a foster child; therefore, the government should relocate abused foster children, with the proper regulations, so they can avoid the issues of sexual, physical, and mental…
“Some foster parents are poorly screened or background checked to ensure they’re safe to be around children. Caseworkers are ill-trained or under-prepared to manage their caseloads. Supervisors are too overwhelmed to manage their subordinates.” (Talenfeld Law). Not taking in mind the criminal background of a newly coming foster parent is even worse than having them in group foster care institutions since the foster parent may have no good intentions towards these kids.…
There is a range of ethical issues in this world, from workers compensation to the treatment of others. Social Services tries to ensure that people get the best care that they can, and one of these ways is through Foster Care. Foster Care gives children a home when their homelife becomes unstable. The service is well-intentioned, however there are ethical issues. Claudia Felder was a child who was raised in the foster care system.…
Foster care system exist to protect children and guarantee their well-being, both physically and mentally. It is a service that assists children who have experienced neglect or abuse by their biological parents or families. These children might be placed in the care of other family members, people they are not related to, in orphanages and with foster parents that have arranged to adopt them. numbers of factors affecting the number of children who got to foster care, but according to (Csaky, pg.30, 2009), it showed a sharp increase from the 1960s to the early 2000s. An increase in poverty levels has increased the likelihood of families not being able to pay their dues such as rent resulting to their homelessness.…
