Mrs. Goodlin responded saying, “I have always seen myself as a giver”. The Goodlin couple told me that, they feel that every child deserves love, respect and a safe environment to grow up in, and believe God has a big plan for them and God has encourage them to do his work.
Knowing that there are so many children in the system who need so much, such as a kind hearted person, couple, and family who general love children to become a foster parent was the power, the drive , and the courage that made the Goodlin couple to open their home to children in the system.
The Goodlin couple mention in the interview that, being a foster parent comes with many different challenges. One of the main challenge is behavioral challenges. The couple said that most of the behavior challenges that they came across, was related to abuses that had occur in the child (ren) life. Some behaviors challenges can also turn into fear, crying, being by themselves, not telling the truth, and taking things/property that’s does not belong to them. Another challenge the Goodlin couple talked about, is the added stressors of communicating efficiently with case workers, birth families, and the court system. The couple said at the end with fostering, there can be great outcome for the foster family and for the foster child, when there are clear understanding, knowledge and the ability to work as a team with everyone who has the child (ren) safety and needs best at
