Basketball Championship? The day was February, 15 2003. After all the dedication and hard work, I’m finally a champion. So much sweat and blood put in to a sport to finally feel untouchable. The beginning of the 2003 basketball year I made a dedication to work harder than everyone else so I can have the edge and try to win that ring. But still I was a little worried on how everything would pan out. I had a good team but I was the leader and they were my followers. If the leader does badly everyone plays bad, so I set high standards for myself not to let them down and give them my best. I worked so hard a practice and even after practice I would stay and work, even on weekends I was in the gym running and shooting trying to reach my potential. Just the thought of holding that trophy with my team and cutting down the net, or ordering rings just drove me every day to work harder. I could hear everyone clapping and cheering for us since we haven’t won state in basketball ever. Well the season began and we started out on a roll. They were just as good as us and they had a player just like me, but I knew I was better so no worries. After a 32 minute battle our fans erupts!!! We were victorious and it feels un describable, everyone rushes center court, we cut the net down and get called to the center of the court for the trophy dedication and M.V.P. announcement. As I stood there just looking at my coaches and team mates I was so grateful for what I had and was just praying that they call my name for the M.V.P. trophy. I did it, got M.V.P. and won state nothing feels better than this and all it took was a strong mind and hard work and dedication. I’m the happiest kid alive on this late afternoon

And I've even sat down and cried. In frustration, happiness, and just because that was the only thing I could think to do. But no matter what the situation, I always had my friends to cheer me up, my coaches to tell me beat them next time, and my parent to tell me to suck it up and win the next match. I've had a lot of success while under the guidance of my coaches; Coach Davis, Coach Marko, Coach Hill and Coach Leon. I’ll never keep any of the glory for myself, I owe everything to them, my parents, and my teammates.…

The shot clock went off and before you knew it we had lost. The Huskies actually lost in the championship, and unable to go undefeated for another season. We were shocked, some of us even in tears. We saw the Heat hold the trophy as we received our 2nd place medals, which meant nothing coming from winning so much. We walked out of that gym with our heads down and in disbelief.…

If someone told the middle school me that I was going to lead the basketball team as a captain for three years in a row I would’ve never believed them. But after living through it, I am more than grateful that it got to be me. After having three different coaches, winning the MVP award all three years, and having every girl on the team look up to me by my senior year, it has truly been a blessing and I cannot fathom that it has come to an end. Not that I had to carry the team, but I wanted to carry the team for me. I did this because I knew that was the only way that any of the girls would start trusting each other.…

A nail bitter, teeth clincher, bone shaker. This game was everything you want when you take the family out for an evening of high school basketball. The Falcons and The Stallions battled tick for tac down to the very last second, but there could only be one winner. The first quarter was a bit sloppy, a lot of missed baskets, a lot of fouls, and plenty of turnovers, no one had gone on a stretch, after the first quarter the score was Green Run 10 Cox 9.…

An accomplishment I had in my past was only have 5 loses on entire season of baseball last year. In years past we had been very bad. I joined my school’s wrestling team during my junior year of high school and went into this new environment with 0 years of prior training and 16 years of “Girls don’t really wrestle”. I was determined to excel during my first wrestling experience to challenge the skepticism that surrounded girl wrestlers. Despite this resolve, I was terrified at the thought of having to actually wrestle someone, so when I found out that my first wrestling match would be against a small, unassuming girl 20 pounds lighter than me, I was relieved. With newfound hope, I went into my match thinking, “How could I possibly lose to someone half my size?”…

My strategy helped us improve, and even if we still were not winning, we were at least acting as a team and making small adjustments, especially in communication and overall teamwork.
