Foster Care Social Work Case Study

Amy Freeman graduated from University of Georgia with a bachelor’s in social works. She currently works for the Division of Family and Child Services (DFCS) in Walton County. Walton County has 123 children in foster care during April, 2015 to March, 1015. The Division of Family and Children Services is the part of Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS). Division of Family and Child Services investigates child abuse; finds foster homes for abused and neglected children; helps low income, out-of-work parents get assistance; assists with childcare costs for low income parents who are working or in job training; and provides many support services and programs to help families experiencing challenges. A foster care social workers job includes many different and ever changing demands. The foster care social worker must maintain documents for all cases this is important to do because if you need those documents for either court or to show other resources you work with. This also help to show progress of case. They must also be the advocate for all represented clients in most cases the child. The foster care social worker must also assist the biological parents of the child by possibly providing a developed case plan to aid in reunification of the child to the biological parents. They also coordinative services for clients in each cases, and represent Division of Family and Child Services in court hearings. They work with churches that provide parenting classes, parent aids who work with families, adoption agencies, private foster homes, group homes, therapist, and sometimes the police. It is the case manager’s job to be up to date on information about these serves. These services are what the foster care social worker will refer their clients to, if they should need to seek assistance. These services are vital to the success of reuniting the biological parents with their children. There are many challenges that one faces if they choose to be a foster care social worker. One the main challenges with being a foster care social worker are that your work days are unpredictable. You are responsible for organizing meetings with conflicting schedules. You have to coordinate with parent aids, the biological parents, the foster parents, the kids, and their schools. There is a lot of traveling involved. You have to be comfortable going into people’s homes. You have to make difficult decisions with colleagues regarding the welfare of the
