Ethical Issues Surrounding Pregnancy Complications

Most of the time when someone talks about an ethical problem surrounding pregnancies the first thought that comes to mind is abortion. There are actually many others that do not receive the attention that should be brought to light. One being extraordinary medical treatment for pregnancy complications. What are these treatments? Should these treatments be used? So many questions arise from this topic. Some see pregnancy as natural occurrence and not requiring any medical attention while others see pregnancy as a medical condition that must be monitored. Women who are pregnant normally have an ultrasound done, and for them this is the time when they meet their little one. The mothers to be never think of the ultrasound as being something that can show an abnormality or anything more than a window into the womb. On the occasion that it does show something it shocks the parents because they are not expecting this. In reality an ultrasound is a prenatal test. Many believe that you should carry the baby that was created inside of you til full term and deliver even if there are going to be complications for the child. Then you have others that believe there should be a choice as to whether or not the mother would want to carry full term. It has been argued that it is unfair to bring a child with a defect into this world if we can avoid doing so. The point that weighs the most is what if the child has a disability and maybe treatments are available, would one still see the need to end the pregnancy if the child could live a potentially unharmed full life. It is also been said that prenatal testing could lead to more abortions which could mean fewer programs to benefit the disabled because the population will have fewer disabled
