Being able to identify bumps, inflammation, tissue mutilation, growths, and the overwhelming news of the sex of an unborn child all have one thing in common, an ultrasound. Diagnostic medical sonography, more commonly referred to as ultrasound, is a growing area of the health care sector with excellent job prospects. Sonographers are skilled clinicians who perform ultrasound studies as ordered by physicians for their patients. The images created by sonographers are then used to determine a medical diagnosis. (Broward College) Ultrasound involves many theories, techniques, and occupations. The number of opportunities involved with ultrasounds is valuable in major medical diagnostics. Job opportunities and growth are widely increasing for sonography in the health care industry. As medical careers begin to rise, needs for experts in a variety of areas in medicine are increasing. With the development of diagnostic imaging physicians have a more efficient and safer way to diagnose patients. Understanding the wide array of diagnostic tests and their uses are essential to figuring out what a career as a sonographer entails and the type of education that is needed.
