AWhy are the advancements made to obstetrics ultrasound imaging so important? Ultrasound imaging is a high valued technology that is used to see many of the body’s internal organs such as blood vessels, soft tissues, or a growing fetus inside the womb along with the placenta and uterus. This simple, pain free procedure is dependant on sound waves that are sent through the mother and bounce off the baby and back to the ultrasound machine. Ultrasounds have been around for some time now, however the results that they have to show have changed tremendously. There are so many great things that one can learn from having an ultrasound done. This helps link the mother to their unborn child and has even changed the mindset of abortion for some women. Since the introduction of 3D and 4D imaging the abortion rate has decreased because the mother is able to see that the life inside of her is healthy.
