The third reason is that even if the mother does not want to raise the child, there are so many families in the United States of America that could adopt a child. The fourth reason our group argued against abortion was the high rate of abortions of fetuses with disabilities like Down Syndrome. Mothers who have their child’s DNA tested in pregnancy can know if their child has a chromosomal disorder before he or she is born. Parents can then have the option to abort the fetus after that information is known. There are several groups and laws that have developed to help ensure and protect the lives of these children (like the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990), so there would be no logical reason to abort the child.
