Abortion Social Issue Essay

One reason abortion is a social issue is because people don’t know whether it should be either illegalized or legalized everywhere. Tom Anderson says,” if abortions become illegalized then it will have a significant impact on women and would cause society to become like the third world.”(Anderson,3) Which he describes as a place where the population suffers from poverty, malnutrition, treatable disease, poor health care, unemployment and lastly a place where women feel little empowerment concerning their reproductive lives. (Anderson, 3). Another reason abortion is a social issue is because after having abortions women often go into P.A.S.S. Post Abortion Stress Syndrome. P.A.S.S is the physical and emotional inability to get over the trauma …show more content…
Not realizing that if abortions are outlawed then the rate of deaths would increase because women who desperately don’t want a child may try to self terminating or seek help from unqualified people. Since the US Department of Public Health evaluates family planning an governmental programs the abortion rate data is relied on, in public health terms (lee&Sprague,2). Instead of outlawing abortions, another way to prevent them is to make advances in education, technology, and contraceptives. The percent of abortions have decreased since it reached the peak in 1984 because people are giving more education, making more technology and contraceptives better and effective. Tom Anderson says, “Women should have the right to safe and legal abortions because it ensures them full responsibility and free participation in society.” Agreeing with Anderson, M. Lee and Nancy Sprague says not only should abortions be allowed but they should be a constitutional right. Brian Wilson disagreed and said, “Abortions should be outlawed because they are taking the lives of unborn children,” in addition to agreeing with him Lynn-nore Chittom and Heather Newton they are trying to get the supreme court to overturn the Roe v. Wade case. In a way I agree with both sides for different reasons because they both have their pros and cons. If abortion remains legal I think more and more women will become pregnant and feel a since of not having to be responsible. For example, if they get pregnant and it is unwanted then they want have to worry about the things that they have to get together before the baby is born the pregnancy can be terminated. On the other hand abortions can be a help to rape victims, women of incest and/or with health problems because if a women is of incest or is raped then they shouldn’t have to go through a full pregnancy term. Abortions should be outlawed because then women will think before they run free. If abortions are outlawed then the baby death rate will decrease and most of all unborn children will not be terminated. The bad thing

A common argument for people who argue that abortion should not be legal is that they think abortion is a murder. Although there are laws about when women are able to do an abortion, some people still think it is a murder if they do an abortion early in the pregnancy since they refer to it as a life. In addition, the people who think that abortion should be illegal say that the unborn babies are human and have a right to life, and when pregnant women make an abortion they take away the right to life for the baby. Another argument that is used by the people who are against abortion is how it is morally wrong to do an abortion, it is similar to the previous arguments since the people who are against abortion think that it is morally wrong to not give birth to a child that a woman is pregnant with and not give it a life that it has the right to. Although there are many arguments about how abortion should not be legal, there are also arguments about why abortion should be legal.…

But many relationships with couples or married couples last very short after the abortion. This shows that abortion doesn’t only affect the woman but affects everyone around her as well. In Steven Ertelt’s article, Study: Abortions Causes Future Relationship Problems, More Domestic Violence, states that abortions in current relationships cause fighting when wanting a child in the future and even domestic violence. Sometimes the partner would convince the women to have an abortion because he/she doesn’t want one but I feel that it’s incorrect that he or she decided to abort the child. For this reason, it doesn’t take one person to get pregnant, and they should know if they don’t want a child they need to use protection.…

We could change that though if we make abortion illegal then no one has to go through the pain of making a hard decision and killing their baby because they can 't take care of them or don 't want to burden themselves. We have other options. If abortion was illegal it would stop protest and increase population. Those opposed to abortion claim that abortions should be illegal because of the possible abuse, physical and psychological danger it poses to females. They believe that if we continue to make abortions readily and easily available to all females, they will not use preventative care and instead just have uncontrollable amounts of abortions, they argue, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study showed that 19-25% of women who received abortions in 2006 had previously had one or more abortions. Those against abortion claim that it is a slippery slope, which would lead to excessive unhealthy abortions of many, but also the break down of the women’s psychological state. A 2002 peer-reviewed study published by the Southern Medical Journal of more than 173,000 American women, found that women who aborted were 154% more likely to commit suicide than women who carried to term. They claim that obviously there has to be come kind of after effect that women are enduring because of these abortions.…
