The ideal staff members would have an awareness of the plight of migrants and the role of education in empowering refugee youth to be community leaders. Moreover, the WUSC head office staff would have strong leadership skills and philanthropic management abilities. Besides, in dealing with regional, international partners and government agencies, WUSC staff would have to have some international exposure. More specifically, the campus support team would compose of individuals who can inspire volunteers to take action. The campus support team would be a channel of communication between the head organization and campus branches.

Currently, WUSC sponsors only UNHCR recognized refugees (see appendix B for the definition of a refugee and others). This is to some extent limiting WUSC because when other issues arise, support for refugees fades. Besides, “refugee-like situations”, such as climate refugees, conflict refugees, and internally displaced people, are on the rise, which are not considered as refugees under the UNHCR and the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees definition of a refugee (UNOHCHR, 1951). Thus, in order WUSC to stay a relevant organization, supporting those in “refugee-like situations” would be part of its mission. This can be done by raising funds for those in need, which can be easily incorporated into the social events that campus branches …show more content…
One of WUSC’s key strength is that students from almost all fields of studies can get involved. However, the challenge is finding ways to motivate student volunteers to join and stay with the campus branch, and competing with other campus groups for volunteers. A good way to motivate them is to provide them incentives. Students get involved in building their resume and make friends. As such, the WUSC campus support team would provide references, awards for achievements, and the ability to network with individuals in their field of study for those who get involved with the campus

It would be the greatest honor to be a TRIO SSS transfer mentor for Wenatchee Valley College students. I am interested in being a transfer mentor because as a first-generation college student I understand that being a first-generation student of color comes with barriers, but also gives me a unique and valuable perspective with which to bring to higher education. My parents only have an elementary education and have no understanding of the U.S educational system and as the middle child of five siblings, I understand the responsibilities and pressures youth in these populations have with shouldering the burden to accessing and disseminating information to their entire family. Additionally, I understand the cultural challenges some students of color may face as many traditional households discourage pursuing…

& Crawford, K., 2012, p67). A business’s unique culture is a powerful tool for achieving goals, therefore making it important for managers to understand and assess all facets of it. Thinking back to the beginning of the semester when we read “Competing on Analytics” I think that your value chain is really established from your competitive distinction. These days higher education is in a tough spot because you can virtually go to school anywhere and everywhere in the world. With the advances in technology and what is available, what a student needed to be in class for twenty years ago, they can now watch a recording or participate online. All colleges and Universities are providing the same thing to students, and that is knowledge, at least one can hope. Saint Joseph’s mission and selling point to a lot of students can be described in our mission statement “As Philadelphia’s Jesuit Catholic University, Saint Joseph’s provides a rigorous, student-centered education rooted in the liberal arts.…

The "True Bruin" philosophy resonated with me both professionally and personally as I researched the institution and academic and student services (AS2). I have only gotten this far with integrity, ambition, service, and immense support. I am passionate about helping students who have challenges that may affect their ability to be independently successful academically; transitioning new student-athletes to college, and developing part time support staff. In my experience, the student-athlete population that I have worked with has invaluable skills and talents beyond their athletics ability. These skills and talents are realized due in no small part to the support staff.…

An organizational culture is what is important to them, what directs them towards doing things as they deem the “right way”. Here one has a culture that has strong customer service; whereas the other has a culture that is effective at holding down the costs efficiently. As both these cultures would benefit from the other, no one more important than the other, stressing one culture over the other would not be the way to lead the group. Integration is a way that both existing cultures can improve, creating a new culture, one that is not biased to either former culture, and yet would be the best of both…

Support staff are essential in the support & care of all individuals who live within a residential setting in Health & Social Care. These roles can be very mentally & physically challenging & draining on support staff, so management need to be very aware of how many hours a week staff are working & how their shift pattern is set out. All staff have very different stamina & ability to deal with tiredness & situations, so the manager must look at each person individually. They must be very observant of staff & look for fatigue, short temper & minor mistakes. If this starts to occur, it should be highlighted to the staff & discuss strategies or possible reduction in hours if required.…

Personal Philosophy of the Student Affairs Field Reflecting on my personal college experience and those of my peers, I believe that the field of Student Affairs provides a unique and even essential opportunity to help shape the experience that student’s receive within the university setting. I strongly believe that students gain more from their college experience learning and growing outside of the classroom rather than inside. Self-discovery and personal exploration through extra-curricular activities and interpersonal interactions guide students through their academic careers and develop who they wish to become as an adult facing the “real world.” Student Affairs professionals help to ensure that each student begins their track to self-discovery…

One of the reasons I would be honored to be a student ambassador is because I want to introduce and familiarize other prospective students with the school that I love so much, that has opened so many doors of opportunities, introduced me to so many amazing people, and has given me a top notch education. I want to encourage students who are perhaps unsure if WSU is right for them, or if college in general is right for them, that WSU and all that it has to offer makes it the place for anyone, from all backgrounds, all experiences, and all areas of interests. This is because WSU also offers majors, clubs and organizations, and communities in which anyone can find a sense of belonging and acceptance. Aside from the school itself, WSU is home to…

Organizational culture is defined by the set of shared values and practices of an organization. Instead of a mandated doctrine, organizational culture is better described as an outcome of collective behavior, which cannot be dictated by leaders outright. However, leaders are capable of shaping the way employees think and behave and this paper will discuss how leaders can influence organizational culture in the Asian context. Organizational culture plays a great part in an employee’s overall experience at the company and can be developed as a competitive edge for the company.…

However, a key element, which forms a basic base that leads to superior performance, is a strong organisational culture. Most successful managers suggest that strong culture plays an important role in organisational performance. An organisation achieves its objectives mainly due to a strong culture shared among employees as well as the top management. In the writer’s point of view, strong culture has positive impacts on the organisation because when employees identify, accept, appreciate and commit to that culture, they tend to work more sufficiently and effectively to attain organisational goals. According to Shahzad, Luqman, Khan and Shabbir (2012, p.981), strong culture is considered as a force in order to enhance the performance, motivation, and dedication of the employees.…

Firstly, strong culture acts as ‘social glue’ bonding employees together. Richard Perrin once said, “organisational culture is the sum of values and rituals that serve as ‘glue’ to integrate the members of the organisation” (Watkins, 2013). A strong positive culture allows employees to foster trust among one another, making them more passionate and dedicated towards their work in the organisation (McShane, Olekalns & Travaglione, 2013; Brown, 1998). On one hand, a strong culture reduces and precludes destructive behavior and conflicts. On the other hand, it increases employees’ focus on customers and other important constituencies (Sweeney & McFarlin, 2002).…

However, Grau and Moormann (2014) indicate that although organizational culture is important, it has been lightly reviewed in the literature and merely mentioned among a multitude of other factors. Nafei (2014) states that the organization should consider three main factors in the case of change: technological, organizational and personal perspectives. In addition, he states that people are the most important factor for making changes, although people are also the most difficult element to deal with. Since all Omani universities and colleges are currently undergoing the accreditation process, they should be aware that it will lead to a lot of changes in their current cultures. According to Godemann, Bebbington, Herzig and Moon (2014), accreditation is necessary to gain proactivity of the leaders and faculty in establishing positive changes.…
