It is essential that the staff who are employed to help support the individuals have a wide range of skills, knowledge, backgrounds & beliefs. By having a wide range of staff, the individuals will have access to a more varied & person centred support. As manager I am fully aware of the needs of the individuals who reside in the service, so when I interview & employ new staff, I ensure that I will evaluate their skills, experience, knowledge, background & general interests in life to be able to provide the individuals a very varied type of support. It can be very difficult to find quality applicants to join the team at the service, so there can be times where, as manager, I need to talk to applicants & find out their interests & strengths. If this is difficult to determine, the final, & possibly best way to gauge how they will react to the individuals, is by actually spending time & interacting with them. On the whole, I feel these ways are effective as we have quite a diverse selection of staff at the service I manage, with many different ages, genders, beliefs, experiences & abilities, which ultimately benefits the individuals we support. Should any staff member leave, I will attempt to replace them with someone who has similar skills & experience where this is at all
