I want to encourage students who are perhaps unsure if WSU is right for them, or if college in general is right for them, that WSU and all that it has to offer makes it the place for anyone, from all backgrounds, all experiences, and all areas of interests. This is because WSU also offers majors, clubs and organizations, and communities in which anyone can find a sense of belonging and acceptance. By being a well-rounded student through my diverse involvements at Xavier, I inspire others to get out of their comfort zone and branch out and try new things. As a freshman from Nairobi, Kenya, I experienced culture shock which made me isolate myself from the Xavier community since adjusting to a new environment, weather, education system, food, and culture was difficult for me. As soon as I decided to get involved in my second semester at Xavier, I began getting the full Xavier experience that is always advertised as I formed relationships with people who would later positively impact my life. My decision to get involved has opened my eyes to many opportunities and has led me to win prestigious scholarship awards at Xavier such as the 2016 Antonio Johnson scholarship and receive the 2016 Diversity and Inclusion recognition award for my efforts to create a campus culture of diversity and inclusion.…

While attending the week long freshman seminar many of the individuals that I had first contact with were ambassadors, carrying out tours and trying to coax the shyness out of new admits. At that point I knew that if the opportunity ever opened up to apply for the team then I would take advantage and apply. To me, ambassadors may not be the first face you come into contact with but they should make every effort to be the most memorable. Ambassadors have a crucial job in handling freshmen and transfers, individuals who may not be familiar with UHD or what it has to offer. I have been branded as a "people person" by those who personally know me but I am just very passionate about sharing knowledge and connecting with other individuals.…

When I was little, I wanted to be a chemist. I imagined myself in the lab coat and with goggles on, carefully pouring electric blue liquids and jade green foam back and forth into various containers, until something had exploded and I had discovered the best way to make flowers the size of people. As I grew up, I lost this fantasy, but I gained more knowledge on how I wanted to influence the world. Funnily enough, I discovered what I really wanted to do when I started working at Chick-fil-A during the summer before my sophomore year. All of my friends had warned me against working in fast food, quoting horrible smells and ridiculous customers and tons of grease.…
