Pete Hautman once said “Yes, books are dangerous. They should be dangerous- they contain ideas.” People are banning books because they contain bad words or they have things that parents find offensive. Yes this may be true but authors put these things in a book for a reason, they aren’t putting bad words in books just for the fun of it. I think districts should not have the right to ban books because students have the freedom to read and teachers should be able to make the right decision.
I feel districts shouldn’t have the right to control what students read because teachers should be smart enough to make the right decision on which book students read. Instead, the teacher could give the student a different book to read along with any other students whose parents don’t want them to read the other book and for those whose parents don’t mind, they can read the book the teacher originally picked. Districts should not be able to ban books because teachers should be able to make the right decision and kids have the freedom to read what they want. Have you ever read the book “Fifty Shades of Gray?” Well if you have then you know that it is definitely not appropriate for elementary students or middle school students, so instead of banning a book, just don’t read
