Common Reasons For Banning Books

The issue focused on the banning of books has been a heavily debated topic for a long time. Many people have argued their side of why certain books should be banned. Others have their reasons as to why such books should not be restricted from public use. Two examples of those reasons are that inappropriate themes exist in the real world and that books can be used as “teaching tools” by parents. Books, even if they are “inappropriate,” should not be banned from the public. To begin, one reason that books should not be banned is that inappropriate themes occur in the real world. An example of an inappropriate concept is racism. In the article “Common Reasons for Banning Books,” it states that a book can be banned due to “racial Issues: About and/or encouraging racism towards one or more group of people.” However, prejudice prevails in real life, even through all of the efforts by different races to exterminate these beliefs. So, even though people may try to shield younger readers from such racism, they may be exposed in other ways. Another example of an inappropriate topic is sexually explicit material.
