Subject: Application for the School Counseling program
I seek to learn and develop myself to be able to be an advocate of school children specially provide assistance for “at risk” and special need students as well as students performing below grade level. My admission in Masters in School Counseling Program for summer 2016 would help me in this pursue.
I was always interested in psychology and love to interact with people. I did my undergraduate degree in double major Psychology and English Literature. I have an experience of eight years working with children I worked for two years as a Fifth-grade teacher in an Elementary School. For the past six years, I taught in Middle school, besides teaching. As a student, I struggled to understand and write one of the regional languages. I remember feeling frustrated, helpless and sad. My teacher recognized my problem and spent months helping me in the subject after school. It took a lot of time and a great deal of patience on her part, but one day it all worked well for me and I learned the various ways regional language was written. The joy and pride I felt were unmatched by any other moment in my proceeding years. I learned much more than language during my study session. My teacher taught me to believe in myself. She taught me to understand about others feelings, the valve of hard work and joy in extending a helping hand to others. I have been fortunate enough to do so with great success in the last seven years. I always like to work with students’ strengths and success. I would like to develop my skills in solution focused counseling. I believe in utilizing the students’ ideas in a collaborative relationship and stressing their strengths and success from the past as the key. If I am enrolled in the Master’s Program I wish to establish co-operative change – focused relationship by being curious and respectful, listening carefully, validating and complimenting the students. I believe that each child is unique, resourceful and capable of change. As a counselor, I would like to learn to involve them, make use of their experiences, strength, and
