Most people now days take voting for granted being that they never had to experience the inability to vote. On August 18, 1920, the 19th amendment was passed. This amendment allowed women the right to …show more content…
Several may think that this controversy has improved over time, though not nearly as significantly as many would think. Catherine DesRoches, DrPh, of the Mongan institute says, "Our study found that, across the board, men are being paid substantially more than equally qualified and accomplished women at academic medical centers." (qtd in Even highly 2). “Even after controlling for the differences in academic ranking, research productivity and other personal characteristics, women earned from $6,000 to $15,000 less per year than men of similar levels of accomplishment.” (Even highly). It is utterly ridiculous that women are paid up to $15,000 less than men for performing the same techniques. It has been made clear that even though women have been granted many more right in time here in the US, women are still at some major disadvantages when it comes to equal rights. "These differences may seem modest," DesRoches says, "but over a 30-year career, an average female faculty member with a PhD would earn almost $215,000 less that a comparable male. If that deficit were invested in a retirement account earning 6 percent per year, the difference would grow to almost $700,000 over a career. For department of medicine faculty, that difference could be almost twice as great." (Even highly 2). When at the doctor's office, I can highly doubt that anyone thinks less …show more content…
Though this is ideal, is it most definitely not the case. Many women in other countries are either forced to follow through with abortion or some are even forced to have kids even when wish not to. In an article titled, ¨Beijing and the future of women: improving health depends on changing women's social and political roles.¨ “The publicity surrounding this issue disguised the fact that reproductive rights are a symptom of a much larger problem.¨ (Craft 580). “Women's health is inextricably linked with social conditions, and the platform for action acknowledges the link between health and many of the other critical areas of concern such as poverty, education, and human rights.” (Craft 580) Womens health is determined by many other factors- mainly social conditions. Women in several other countries do not get a say in what happens to their body. The same article later states that ¨Women often lack basic human rights such as the right to receive adequate food.” Clearly women are going to struggle healthwise when not even given decent food to eat. Along with a lack in nutritional food, women all over the world struggle to receive a decent education leading to even more health problems. Women who don't receive an education are clearly unaware of the dangerous health issues out in the world. Two thirds of women in developing countries lack an education. These same women often die of
