Online social media has gained shocking growth and popularity in the last few years. Teens and young adults make up the vast majority of users. Some of the most popular sites that teens use include Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google, and Instagram. There are two perspectives of the question of: does social media affect teens positive or negatively? Some say that social media effects teens positively but others are on the opposite side and say that it affects teens negatively. The real answer is, social media can effect a teens both positively, and it can also have negative impacts on teens. On the negative side it can affect teens formal writing, and also it can be a way that predators can catch onto one self. On the other hand, there are also positive ways it can affect teens, one way is, it can be beneficial to teens writing.
Teens can be affected by social media negatively in many ways. One way is that it can wreck their formal writing. Teens are getting so acclimated to using their “text language” that when it comes to writing essays they forget how to write formally. When teens text they tend to use abbreviations and informal words that are not in the dictionary. “ Students are more likely to commit certain grammatical errors because they use the conventions of texting, tweeting and Facebooking in their formal academic essays” (Campbell).
