Social media is currently the most common interaction for the modern day entrepreneur. Herriot as a businessman had only newsprint and word of mouth versus today's modern businessman who has the ability to advertise through mass emails, web pages, newsprint, word of mouth, and networking. The amount of social interaction is limitless, now the choice of how much interaction is determined by how much interaction the business owner wants to have. As a new veterinarian Herriot writes of being hesitant or not as quick to perform certain tasks. He struggled to gain the confidence of the farmers, leading to a lack of confidence in his abilities. With the repetition of certain tasks, for example birthing calves, his confidence grew in his abilities to perform his job. This new found confidence allowed him to perform his job more efficiently, leading to increased confidence from the farmers. When you feel confident in yourself it is harder for others to point out your flaws. Confidence lead to more comfortable social interactions.

Social media provides a safety net for those with a lack of confidence in their interpersonal skills. The few words typed over social media are often times misleading, or misinterpreted.
