Do Guns Defend or Kill? More than thirty people are shot and murdered each day (Mayors Against Illegal Guns). More than 30 000 people are killed by firearms each year in the United States of America (Mayors Against Illegal Guns). The mass shooting and incidents by firearms have become common place in the United States, where there are almost as many weapons as people (Mayors Against Illegal Guns). Even though a homicide with firearm is the second leading cause of death among young people, this fact is not enough for the American government to change the law of owning and bearing arms. To decrease the percentage of the tragic incidents with firearms, the law of owning and bearing arms should be enforced. It is fair to recognize that Americans have a tradition of gun ownership. They use weapons for hunting, for sportsmanship, and for protecting their families, but there are also the tragic mass shooting incidents and violence on the streets that are the result of illegal gun usage. For increasing public safety, the law of owning and bearing arms should be subject to several changes. The government must have reasonable, thoughtful gun control measures that will respect the Second Amendment and people’s tradition, but at the same time it will guarantee more public …show more content…
