The benefits of digital technology in a classroom have positive effects across all major subject areas, from Preschool through to High School, and beyond, inclusive of teachers, regular students and special education students. The introduction of computers, interactive whiteboards, and online telecommunications across classrooms to collaborate in different locations across the country and the world has also shown great benefit and improvement in academic learning. Introducing students and teachers to technology has seen increased attitudes toward their learning and class interactions and levels of motivation. The use of educational technologies supports increased retention rates and meaningful learning.
From an early age, students need a strong foundation in technology to be successful in society. (Nelson, Palonsky, & McCarthy, 2010). The six drivers of digital expectancy are students, parents, teachers, the government, employers and the wider community. (Howell, 2014). There is an expectation that students will develop the skills to be able to be active members of a technologically fluent society, they will be taught to use different technologies that will assist them in the world and in their communities and be fully participating members of a global knowledge based society.
