The following will discuss the different types of workgroups and teams. It will include both the similarities and differences of the different types of workgroups and teams. Based on the similarities and differences, a recommendation on which types of groups will work most effectively at CMA.

Unit Three Individual Project: Workgroups and Teams Ultimately, an organization creates workgroups and teams to bring together people with corresponding skills and interests to work toward an organizational goal or task. By definition, a workgroup on the broader spectrum is two or more people who regularly work on the same project, but “are interdependent in achievement of a common goal, and may or may not work next to one another or in the same department” (WebFinance Inc., 2016). Alternatively, teams work together, rather than independently to accomplish a common goal. Teams are unquestionably types of workgroups, nevertheless not all workgroups are considered teams. In reality, ordinary workgroups, compared to teams are much more common (Brounstein, 2002).
Types of Workgroups Workgroups, also referred to as a natural team, are formed when employees have responsibility for the same processes or tasks. Oftentimes, workgroups are permanent. “They 're primarily self-managing, as each member 's accountability to the group encourages active participation” (Uhlig, n.d.).
