My knowledge of human service organisations before commencing SWP3UIO Understanding Organisations for Social Work Practice, is limited and include disability services which I have education and experience in, and other services such as aged care and mental health. They are organisations which work with people; within varying degrees of quality, regardless each system in which they operate has their achievements and flaws partially the difference between small and large scale organisations. The newspaper article I have chosen for reflection on human services organisations is ‘People visibly sleeping rough on Melbourne 's main streets 'just the tip of the iceberg ' of homelessness’ (Anderson, 2015). This article describes the current experiences …show more content…
Eastern Health also has an extensive organisational personal structure, which works within the Health Services Act 1988, the National Health and Hospitals Reform Commission and the new Mental Health Act 2014 (Eastern Health-Organisational Structure, 2014: Chief Parliamentary Counsel, 2012; Dwyer & Eagar, 2008: State Victorian Government, 2014).
Structure
Eastern Health’s organisational structure is extensive, hierarchy based and inclusive of all its service’s and hospitals, and is publicly available in the form of a chart (Eastern Health-Organisational Structure, 2014). This supports my initial belief of Maroondah hospital being within the machine metaphor and utilising managerialism (Hughes & Wearing, 2013).
Funding
Maroondah Hospital, as a public hospital gains it funding mostly from the Commonwealth and Victorian governments, particularly through National Health Reform Payments. Eastern Health funding is nearly 800 million annually (Dwyer & Eagar, 2008; Eastern Health-Quick Facts, 2014).

Myself within the group, I have noticed I enjoy the support we give each and the discussions we have which out outline our goals and knowledge. Though I dislike having to compromise for individuals who I feel aren’t contributing as much as they should with sceptical or no reasons for their reduced contributions. Within an group dynamic I believe we’ve all taken turns leading in short instances, though I believe Freya and Tess did more leading then Alannagh, Karyn and I did, which I did not mind, as I am okay with being a follower.
Working in groups within organisations is essential for efficient work as individuals need to be able to communicate their contributions currently and in future to prevent unnecessary conflicts or workloads and to best serve their clients. Hughes and Wearing (2013) speak of the complexities of these dynamics and the huge task of keeping them on track and working and the easy slip into mayhem. Hughes and Wearing (2013) helps explain the best practice ideals of working in groups within organisations such as authority, accountability, creativity, communication, problem solving skills and regular evaluation of the groups

Because of this, social justice is achieved through the servitude of people deemed as vulnerable, and oppressed, along with living in poverty (Jacobson, 2001). We also understand its pivotal role in the service it delivers to those in need by a way of the social policy arena devising and advocating to address the wide range of social problems in order to bring about change (Jacobson, 2001). Ironically, social policy efforts that are recent is aimed at the establishment or the protection of social workers roles, verses promoting transformations in the delivery of human services (Jacobson, 2001). It is also suggest more often in today’s society, social work students are more readily trained as clinical practitioners than advocates of change (Jacobson, 2001). The last decades of the 20th century have seen deep transformations in OCDE health care organizations (Anderson, 2012). As a part of the neo-liberal trend, mercantilism and privatizing policies -that have been advancing for years- have been more intensified in the wake of austerity, bringing health care commodification and privatization as a social and public health issues of special relevance (Karanikolos, et al., 2013; Stuckler & Basu, 2013). In such a way, at the height of the Great Recession, the crisis scenario has been the "perfect excuse" to sharpen the introduction of market criteria in operation and management of public administration (Oliver, 2005). And consequently, as a concomitant process, there has been a progressive increase…

The aim behind this piece of writing is to reflect upon the process and the formation of my group. Reflection is ‘... a form of mental processing with a purpose and/or anticipated outcome that is applied to relatively complex or unstructured ideas for which there is not an obvious solution’. (Moon 1999 pg.23). Moon (1999) also states that we reflect for many reasons; important reasons being to critically review our behavior and that of others.…

The biggest takeaway I have from our class time is the importance of interpersonal relationships in the workplace and how crucial dealing with people as more than just robotic workers really affects both work effort and efficacy. I have always been taught the importance of encouraging your workers, keeping an open environment, and analyzing team dynamics critically, but the class helped cement that both with examples and with actual situations that occurred in my groups. I’d be hard pressed to say everything ran smoothly with all the assignment we were given in class. In fact, there were times where we were down to the wire to complete things on time and correctly. The biggest issues with these assignments weren’t difficulty however, it was…

Its approach is a bottom up approach, directing its focus on arming managers and leaders with the tools necessary to become better communicators, informed decision makers, and empowering decision making at various levels in turn building a stronger system.
