1. Describe in detail what fossil fuels are and how they are formed -
Fossil fuels are hydrocarbons, meaning they contain only hydrogen and carbon atoms. They are also the simplest form of organic compounds. These hydrocarbons include coal, crude oil and natural gas and they originate from pre existing organisms. Oil and gas are generally formed from the remains of marine organism whilst coal is formed from the remains of vegetation on land, usually in swampy or low-lying areas.
