Decision-making is a daily occurrence and especially important in the business world. To be an effective decision maker, you must take into account the end-goals, available information, and options in making a decision. The town of Surette is facing a difficult decision as to what they should do with an abandoned building.

When making a decision there are generally three different models to base decision off of. Rational decision-making is a model that suggests choosing the option with that maximizes the preferred outcome. Boundary decision-making is a model where the complex situation is simplified and when looking at different options, the first acceptable solution is chosen. Then there is intuition, which can also be compared to judgment. Intuition is making a decision based off of past experiences. Most tend to make decisions using a combination of these different strategies. It is also important to note that the personality of the decision maker greatly influences which solution they choose. For example achievement oriented people want to be successful and do whatever it takes to make sure failure is not an option. On the other hand, dutiful people want to choose the option that is best for the organization even if it does not guarantee their success.

All of these concepts are taken into account when making a decision and can be seen in the decision making process for the town of Surette. The town must decide whether to turn the abandoned building into private office…
