The community that is being assessed is located in Tecumseh, Oklahoma. The boundary line is from Hardesty Road to Benson Park Road and from Highway 177 to Harrison Road. Some services that surround the community consists of a grocery store, police department, gym, health department, long-term acute care hospital, post office, health clinic, an elder community, adolescent after school program, an arena, and local homes. The boundary lines mentioned and mapped out is a small community within the town of Tecumseh. There are no schools or educational opportunities within this area. Surveying this community it is evident that the essential means to live are provided. The neighborhood is sanitary, no trash is present on the ground, sidewalks are safe, and proper lighting is present. The community is mostly outside of city limits and the houses are farther apart. The elder community is a separate neighborhood consisting of about 40 housing units which are duplexes. The Elder Community consist of approximately 80 …show more content…
The following data was gathered from the community in which the Elder Community is a small part of. The population of this community in 2013 was 6,597, the median resident age is 37.6 years, median income range is $46,000, and 4.6% of the population is unemployed. (City-Data.com, Tecumseh, Oklahoma. (n.d.). The crime rate has declined by 19% since 2007. (Tecumseh, Crime Rates. (n.d.). The population consists mainly of Caucasian’s at 68%, then American Indian at 14.5%, Hispanic at 3.6%, African-American at 2.2%, and Asian at 0.2%. (City-Data.com, Tecumseh, Oklahoma. (n.d.). According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Oklahoma has one of the highest percentage of Native American population at 7.5% (Center for Disease Control, 2015). In 2013, 26.9% of Native American did not have health care, and in 2009 22% had difficulties of delays in obtaining healthcare. (SAS/IntrNet Application Dispatcher.
