Did you do DARE? What did you learn from it? During the last few months, we have had DARE. I learned a lot in DARE, including, how to make responsible choices and to make safe decisions. The DARE Decision Making Model helped me avoid risky situations, to use confident and effective communication, and to stand up to help avoid bullying. I learned a lot of important lessons in DARE. I learned that being responsible is key. Always make the right choice. A good choice is one that keeps you and others safe. I learned that all risks have consequences, even good ones. A risk is taking any type of chance. You could be taking a risk to join a new sport or taking a risk to do drugs. But, all risks have consequences. Consequences are what happens as

There are five different resistance strategies; avoiding the situation, strength in numbers, walking away, saying no while giving a reason or excuse, and changing the subject.. It is best to combine strategies, for example always walking away from the situation. The first resistance strategy is avoiding the situation, if you know that there is a place where people often use drugs, stay away from those areas and if you know certain people use drugs you could also avoid them as well. The next resistance strategy is strength in numbers. If there is a time when you can’t avoid the situation, always go with a group of non-users. This way they will help you out if you end up in a risky situation. Walking away is one of the best options you can try. If someone offers you a drug, say no and walk away because they probably won’t follow you. Another strategy is saying no, while giving a reason or excuse. When someone offers you a drug you could say something about how you have tons of homework or how your parents would ground you for life. You could also try to change the subject to make them forget trying to offer you drugs. If someone offers you a cigarette you could say, “Hey, did you see that movie last night?” Or, “No, but do you want to play some basketball?” You could use any resistance strategy you chose but never let anyone persuade you into using
