Psalm 51 Passage

Improved Essays
How did David express his sorrow after sleeping with another man's wife? David is the man after the heart of God. He became king, and God even made a covenant with him. Even though all these things happened he fell into sin, so how did he repent?
Psalm 51 is written when Nathan the prophet went to him, after he had slept with Bathsheba. This is a passage was to ask for the forgiveness, and mercy of God for what he has done to God, Bathsheba and Uriah the hittite. Uriah the hittite was one of the soldiers of David, a very noble man. One day David woke up in the night went on the roof and saw Bathsheba bathing. He made a servant fetch her and he slept with her. Few days later he had told him she is pregnant so in order to keep his sin a secret he killed Uriah the hittite in the war by sending a message to the commander to send him to the front of the battle. Nathan the prophet came to him, and told him a parable about a rich man who takes everything from a poor man which Nathan later reveals is David who took everything away from Uriah. The key themes in this book is that David wanted God to show him mercy, and to cleanse him of his wickedness. “David's first prayer is for pity; his second, to have his offences "blotted out," or "wiped out" - entirely removed from God's book.”(Canon Cook). It is written in the form of a poetry where he sang, and play his harp solemnly to God. Zhang 2 David intended for this hymn to be written for everyone, so they can sing this as a praise or repenting song to ask God for his forgiveness.

The preceding context said that David has sinned against God. The context following this passage is that David is asking God for forgiveness, and mercy for his actions against God, Bathsheba and Uriah the hittite. The teaching of this passage is that whenever we sin we ask God the cleanse us. “We must go to God for cleansing from sin.” (Omar C. Garcia). Psalm 51 is similar to many Old Testament ,and New Testament verses. One Old testament is “Cast away from you all the transgressions that you have committed, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit!” (Ezekiel 18:31). One New Testament is “and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.” (Colossians 3:10). These are similar because they show how God has cleansed us. Two important words are “transgressions”, and “blot out”. Blot out means the removing a written record. David uses “blot out” to tell God to remove the record of his sin so that he may be forgiven. Transgressions is an act that goes against law. David was condemned by God because of his transgressions which led him to create Psalm 51. This shows that God is a very kind, and merciful God. Although David does get punished it is not as severe as it would have been due to his repentance through Psalm 51. This reveals that Humankind is very corrupt. Although we are given instructions not to do some things we still do because of our sin nature from our lineage from the beginning

The story of Bill Cosby and his sexual assaults of many women has been a hot topic in the news lately, and it has also been the start of the #MeToo movement that has shook the nation for the better. In the the New York Times article “Bill Cosby Found Guilty of Sexual Assault in Retrial,” it not only goes into depth about the trial, but how these women coming together brought forth a whole movement that has allowed so many women to tell their stories about being a victim of sexual assault. In my opinion, I believe that this story, and the many other stories like it, relates to the the bible story of David and Bathsheba in 2 Samuel 11. In the case of Bill Cosby, he drugged women in order to sexually assault them.…

Psalm 68 is an amazing poem written by David that gives insight into the character and qualities of God as sovereign king of both Israel and the world. What is more, the psalm bounces back and forth from speaking to God; using personal pronouns such as ‘you,’ and at the same time David is telling the reader about God. Both of these methods lend well for worship. In addition, David was a king, so his perspective of God as king and the role of the king for his people threads all the way through the entire psalm. Psalm 68 lists specific qualities of God as king, shows his primary activities on behalf of his people and parallels to how King Jesus lived while on earth.…

God asks his people to give an explanation to the witnesses and tell them why they have sinned and what God has done to make them tired of Him. Although God asks what He has done to them it was God who should be wearied of man, it is reminiscent in the book of Isaiah, when God says, “…you have not wearied yourselves for me, Israel.” (Isaiah 43:22b) implying in both places that the people may have becoming tired of God despite His great faithfulness and constant deliverance towards them. Man continues to be unfaithful to God and His covenant and continues to sin, yet God continues to be faithful and compassionate. In verses three, God begins to present His case against the people, using language of rebuke intertwined with tenderness. He asks questions about what he has done to "burden" His people, questions that are reminiscent of Jeremiah 2:5 when God asks His people what wrong their ancestors found in Him that they went away from…

According to Paulo Freire, a Brazilian educator and philosopher who was an advocate of critical pedagogy, “the trust of the people in the leaders reflects the confidence of the leaders in the people” and the Book of Psalms provides worshippers with prayers, poems and hymns with thoughts on God in praise and adoration. Through symbolism, vivid imagery and comforting emotional appeals, Psalm 23 allows Israelites to trust in God and be able to follow Him without a second thought. The use of the first person in the psalm can be from a singular individual such as King David, who the Psalm is of, but can also be used as a representative of the population of Israel in a singular whole. The key theme of Psalm 23 is the trust of the Israelite people…
