This article talks about how a person can love and hate another person. This source points out that it is the experiences that another person feels with the person they love/hate, that affects an individual mind. This information is rather really useful as it gives examples and explains why people love and hate their partner. This information would help explain Medea’s feelings toward her ex-husband. Adam Wingard’s The Guest (2014) subverts the traditional masculine outlaw hero despite the hegemonic masculinity (dominant ways of being a man in society) of the main character. Courtly Love in The Canterbury Tales Courtly love can be described as a medieval conception of love that emphasizes nobility and chivalry. “The Wife of Bath’s Tale” from Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales depicts some criteria necessary for true courtly love; however, not in a traditional sense.…
My creative piece is two mirrors placed back to back. In the mirrors are the two worlds that Othello see throughout the play; innocent and guilty. The blue mirror is innocent, displaying a white dress, medal, handkerchief, and sword and shield. The white dress represents Othello’s wife, Desdemona and her purity. He views her as an angel that can do nothing wrong, a loving and trusting girl who, against her father’s beliefs, fell in love with the man.…
Everyone has a passion , yet sometimes that passion can turn into an obsession which may fully occupy a person and eventually distract them and steal their focus and disturb their priorities. In both The Crucible and Guilty by Suspicion, John Proctor and David Merrill’s roles as tragic heroes reveal that a person’s obsession can ultimately ruin their relationships and eventually lead to their social downfall and put them in a vulnerable position. John Proctor’s affair and obsession with Abigail led to a downfall in his relationship with Elizabeth, his wife and eventually led to his demise. David Merrill’s obsession with his job led to his isolation and his imprisonment and inability of working afterwards so he lost the one thing he was truly…
The Destruction of Pentheus In Euripides’ “The Bacchae,” Dionysus, disguised as a man, goes out to Thebes to assert his rights and gain respect from those who do not acknowledge him as a god. He encounters Pentheus, king of Thebes, still in an adolescent stage and fearful of femininity, something that Dionysus’ worship revolves around. In The Menace of Dionysus: Sex Roles and Reversals in Euripides’ Bacchae, Charles Segal explains why men were so fearful of the out of control woman and how that affected Pentheus, his growth and ultimate destruction: the destruction not only of Pentheus but the whole society. Segal claims that Dionysus is a threat to Pentheus because he affects Pentheus’ masculinity and ability to transition into adulthood;…
Psalm 143 is most widely known as being one of the seven Penitential Psalms. As Psalm 143 falls into this grouping, it also means that it is considered a lament of repentance. While there is not an obvious transgression that David, the writer of the Psalm, is begging for repentance for, it is clearly shown through his words that he needs God to intercede in his life and save him from his transgressions and predicaments. Through his imploring of God to save him, David does not lose hope—he still continues to praise God for the goodness he has done and will do. While, by the end of the psalm, the inflection has grown more optimistic, Psalm 143 still contains the vital ingredients of a lament.…
During the time of Geoffrey Chaucer and for thousands of years before, the society of the world was very patriarchal. Nearly every aspect of a woman's life was beneath a man's. This was especially evident in marriage. Women were expected to do their duty to their husbands and not wander beyond the boundaries of what was culturally acceptable for them. This view on women influenced many writers.…

The story of David and Nathan began in the middle east, when David saw a young woman bathing. David wanted this young woman and she is the wife of Uriah. The young woman had conceived a child with David. When David got word, he sent word for Uriah to come home from the battlefield. I think David thought he could make it right by offering Nathan to sleep with his wife, but he refused to go home, which left David in a pickle.…
I will be interpreting the article Mother-Child Narratives and the Kingdom of God: Authorial Use of Typology as an Interpretive Device in Samuel-Kings by Christopher Jero. In his article Jero uses three narratives, The Hannah Narrative, Solomons Judgement and the Elisha and the Shunnamite Woman to show how these mother child narratives reveal the history of Samuel-Kings. The Hannah narrative details a woman who longs for a son further representing Israel’s longing for a king. Solomon’s judgement tells the story of two woman arguing over who the baby belongs to but symbolizes the divided kingdom. Finally in Elisha and the Shunnamite Woman, God promises a woman a son but the son dies and is later reborn this alludes to the fall of David’s kingdom.…
