The Prophet Jeremiah And The Destruction Of Babylon

Decent Essays
The prophet Jeremiah which has spoken of the destruction of Babylon is also speaking of America. It is believed that this hardship could start in the short coming years. The sequence will be as Follows: Lack of jobs, food, water scarcity, Riots (Cities burning) , Marshal Law, Israel at war, and Oil price rising. Because we are heavily in debt the dollar is pending to collapse. Our country is being held by Visa cards with a maximum credit already maxed out. Martial law can easily be declared because of riots and looting. This could affect the elections to be postponed. This will be serious for America.

The story of “By the Waters of Babylon” is a post-apocalyptic short story by American writer Stephen Vincent Benet. First published July 30, 1937, Benet has included historical context in this tale related to the Americans as the second world war was approaching during the time of creating this story. This story is told in the point of view of John, the protagonist in the story and his mission is to get to the place of the gods and to seek wisdom on how these gods lived. In this amazing literature, it has told the depthness of the story through the eyes of John who turned from a boy into a man during his 8 day journey after knowing the secrets of the gods. While it has the aspects of an imaginary world, the fact that Benet created this story with the relation of the real world makes it an amazing feat.…

Hedges and Sacco begin the chapter, Days of Destruction, with Larry Gibson who explains his childhood living on the mountain. He describes what his life was like then and now, showing that the land is barely recognizable. The land that his family once owned, went from 500 acres to 50. I feel like this relates to many properties in Michigan today. Trees, houses, and land are often torn apart to make room for something new, similar to what Gibson describes happened to the cemetery adjacent to his house.…

The whole city of Jerusalem was suffering, but Jeremiah had faith in God. Sorrow is not the end of the sins. God is kind and he would not allow his children to suffer all the time. Jeremiah’s faithfulness leads the reader to the theme of Lamentations, which is that sins happens sometimes, however, God always brings hope to people when they are desperate. As long as people return to God with regrets of what they have done to confess their sins, worship God humbly with faith and love, God is always with his children and gives them love and forgiveness.…

The vow that Jephthah made to the Lord in Judges 11 led to the sacrifice of his only daughter. In the book Death and Dissymmetry by Mieke Bal, he describes the vow as “guaranteeing primal violence.” Bal says that since Jephthah’s vow contained the word “whatever” it is used as a military tactic, which means he is trying to find a scapegoat if he is not able to defeat the Ammonites himself. By not having the sacrifice before him when he made the vow Jephthah can be viewed as being dishonest because no one has seen the one that will be sacrificed and no one knows if he is going to go through with it once he does meet whatever comes out of his doorway. The vow can be seen as a bribe to strengthen the covenant between the Lord and Jephthah, since there has to be a lot of trust between the two of them in order for the covenant to be cut.…

Vast majority of the United States populations would deny that Americans are fulfilling prophecies written nearly 1,945 years ago (Slick, par.1) which are predicting America's fate. These prophecies foreshadowed America’s many wars, pestilences, diseases, and calamities; furthermore, the cosmos will be turbulent. Men will turn their backs to God and deny Him just as they claim to be prophets of his teachings. Nations will become perverse in their actions to allow sexual pleasures and worshippers of themselves and their possessions. Lastly, it is written in revelations that technology will allow for global communications.…
