On August 6, 2004, Cyntoia made a decision that would traumatically change her life. What she thought was just a simple job turned into a crime scene. Thinking that her life was in danger, she shot and killed a man. Could this have been avoided? Could she have done anything differently to change the outcome of her life? Of course, all of this could have been avoided. There are numerous things that could have been done in order to get her on a straight path. Paying attention and being active in her life was the first step. Studies have shown that delinquents with parents that abuse drugs and alcohol are subject to commit crimes. Cyntoia’s actions were based off of the relationships that she had. She felt as if she was not loved by her mother; which falls in line with the factor of family rejection. She also had issues dealing with attachment.
