She is on the top of the world but is confused as to what might be coming. It is modern yet contemporary piece of art and beautifully painted.
Our Lady of Pomata, a coquera was different; she stood on top of stool of some sort and possibly waiting for someone to come in and hem her dress. I wasn’t too sure what was going on with her and come to find out it was a portrait of the Virgin Mary housed in a sanctuary on the shores of Lake Titicaca, Peru. This was the furthest thought from my mind because there was no river flowing behind her or under her. This piece of art can confuse the viewer, but yet interest them to learn more. My experience was very nice since I have lived her almost all my life and never visited the museum it was a treasure hidden in my back yard! Being there with my fiancé, makes me realize that even when I considered myself totally ignorant about Latin History and art, that I have learned a lot taking this course, I’m now aware about different styles, and details that make me feel I’m understanding and be able to describe not only a painting but maybe comparing them with the time and the context in which they were created. I had a great experience visiting the museum and would recommend everyone to go to the museum that lives close or is vacationing in the Philadelphia area.
