Amber Pasztor, a 29 year old female from Fort Wayne, Indiana, kidnapped her 7 year old daughter and her 6 year old son from her parents, who had custodial rights, home on September 26, 2016. Once Pasztor obtained knowledge about the Amber Alert for her children, she then murdered the two kids. This isn’t the only offense that Pasztor has committed. She was charged with a plethora of cases involving criminal trespassing and invasion of privacy.
Pasztor’s mental state has been questioned because of her reasoning on why she murdered the children. Pasztor stated in a jailhouse interview, via webcam, from the Elkhart County Jail that she smothered the children so that they can be safe from danger. “I gave them a choice,” she said, "They could live, traumatized like me, or they can go to heaven with God and be better off." Once the act of violence was done, Pasztor then drove to the authorities and told them that her children were in the car, dead. During the interview, Amber confessed about killing her two children.
Two behaviors of psychology that can help explain Pasztor’s motive for murdering her two children are the socialculture and cognitive perspectives. I believe both of the mentioned perspectives can apply to how Amber Pasztor’s environment influenced her actions and her thought process.
