Creative Writing: Sourdi's Home

We reached at Sourdi’s home at exactly 9:00. The house looked exactly as it did in the pictures she sent home to us. We parked a little further up the street and watched the house.
“I can’t believe were here.”
“Me either.”
“Now would be a good time to hear a plan.”
I looked at look Duke then hopped out of the truck. “You want to hear a plan, how about I show you instead.”
Duke ran out his truck after to me and grabbed my arm. “Wait Nea you can’t just walk up to the house like that,” he whispered
“Watch me.”
I raised my hand to knock on the door and it opened revealing Sourdi with the baby on her hip. “What are you two doing here?”
It wasn’t the shock of not seeing Sourdi after all this time it was because she had a bruise on her cheek. “What happened to you?

“Run away with us. There is no future here for any of us, at least nothing good.” I said.
“We talked about it when we were younger remember.” Sourdi nodded as she watched her daughter in Duke arms “Now is our chance.”
“Fine, let’s do it!” she said as tears streamed down her face. “Let me pack a small bag for the baby and I.”
It took us five minutes to get on the road and head to only God knows where. The money I saved up wasn’t enough so I stole from the restaurant. Mom thinks I took the day off for myself and Sourdi said her husband would return from work at 5. That gave us a good head start. She said he wouldn’t call the police but most likely come looking for her himself. After driving for two hours we stopped at a gas station for some food and gas.
“It looks like she finally fell asleep.” Sourdi looked down at her child. “I’m going to just freshen up.”
“Here let me hold her.” Duke said
“Thanks I’ll be right back.” Sourdi said as she exited the truck
