Geroux Subcultures

In the article “Creating “Wow” Experiences for Staff and Patients”, the author suggested several important strategies that will help every leader to create “exciting chain of world-class engagement and a world-class patient experience in the workplace” (Geroux). I agree with all the suggestions that Geroux provided in her article.
However, I believe that in order to effectively manage the company, at first, leaders should be able to develop different levels of subcultures within the organization, second, they have to be comfortable with making decision on behalf of the organization, and third, they have to make sure that each subculture is being updated continuously to improve both employee and patient satisfaction.

There are different hierarchical levels and all the levels of the management should be incorporated with each other to create exclusive environment within each department. In order to gain significant knowledge of multiple challenges of being a supervisor and a manager, they actually have to practice their role as a leader at least for several years. It is different when you actually attempting to manage a department with people of various backgrounds and beliefs, with different skills and expectations and with different motivations. Different organizations have different mission and values that might or might not include all the 5 suggestions that Geroux mentioned in her article. Moreover, I believe it is the biggest mistake of the managers who generalize the culture and apply it to all the departments equally. It is possible that different departments need different work environment to produce better outcomes. For instance, I realized that the success of our multimillion nationwide company that I work for, is that we have bureaucratic leadership in the upper level of the management, contemporary management within middle level management and situational leadership for the lowest chain of the organization. However, even though, the lowest chain of the organization is where the company actually produces the highest level of patient satisfaction, employee recognitions and rewards are the minimum in this level of …show more content…
And lastly, leaders have to make sure that each subculture within the organization is being rationalized continuously in order to increase both employee and patient satisfaction. However, because specific subcultures focus on individual level of relationships in between management and employees, it requires leaders to have incredible communication and analytical skills. Upper-level managers have to be continuously engaged with different department managers, supervisors and employees. It is not always possible or necessary to personalize the communication with all the employees or coworkers, however, one of the greatest leadership skills is the ability to focus more on employees’ or coworkers’ behavior and not on their personalities. This way, the leaders will stay within professional boundaries. It will help them to adjust the policies and procedures in a way that every employee will feel comfortable in their workplace, which will eliminate the high turnover of employees. Also, it will create a workplace, where people can actually be innovative and fun. I would call this strategic leadership, because it develops specific rules and regulations, both written and implied, and creates certain environment where the employees become the image of the organization at all levels of the structure.
It is not always possible to eliminate all the issues at the work place, but effective leaders can minimize the loss of the company by simply guiding people through along the way and by becoming
