Creating a Better Version of Myself Transitioning from being a high school student to a college student is an ongoing challenge for me up until now. Honestly, I wasn’t used to doing everything on my own yet because I was very reliant on my parents, teachers, and friends back in high school. But when I got to college I was really surprised at how independent most students were, so I aspired to become like that. I was so pressured to do things on my own and be independent but it had caused me to be extremely stressed out and overwhelmed. Gradually, my mental and physical health got worse and I wasn’t happy going to school anymore. At that point, I thought that I really needed to change my daily routine and seek some help. I will make healthier choices by keeping a food journal and recording what I eat so that I can improve my eating habits. Shopping for more fruits and vegetables at the market would be very helpful. Another way to relieve stress is if I go to the student recreation center to exercise and get physically active. It would help relieve a lot of stress that is caused by my academics and other aspects of my life. Exercise is also known to release hormones called ‘endorphins’ which makes people happy. At the student recreation center they provide ellipticals, a rock wall, basketball courts, and an indoor track for CSUN students to use. To take care of my mental health I would use the services at the Oasis Wellness Center in University Student Union. I have used the nap pods to take a power nap between classes and it would help me get through the day without feeling groggy. By making simple

I was raised in a closely-knit family comprising of my father, mother and younger brother and me.
