For example, there are many obstacles that are the reason why individuals eat unhealthily and do not participate in physical activity. Obstacles that prevent healthy eating include the increase in financial cost for healthy foods and the lack of time and motivation to purchase and prepare a healthy meal. A barrier for physical activity is a lack of motivation. Perceived barriers are similar to the other three concepts within the HBM due to the fact that they all can affect the health behavior of an individual. The concept of perceived barriers differs from the other concepts within the HBM because it can be the final determinant of whether or not the health behavior is accomplished. For example, an individual may understand the benefits of healthy eating and the consequences of unhealthy eating which includes diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. These three diseases can lead to chronic kidney disease or a myocardial infarction. However, if the individual doesn’t have the financial means to purchase healthy foods, this can lead to a barrier in the individual’s health
